Just went to have a look at a job, is this cove run in situe or pre fab?

Pre fab, or run in situe?

My guess is pre fab?

1430mm how much do you reckon to replace?

What would you use to stick? Cove adhesive, easy fill I'm guessing not, dab?

cheers men

That looks like original cornice spanky? How old is the house? Are you taking it all down and replacing, or are you trying to patch ln lengths of it?

Well I would have priced to replace the lot, but there is on going movement, so said to her there not much point as it will only crack again in the next couple of years, I asked has she had a structural engineer out, which she has and it's all come under decor replace... :RpS_confused:

There is only 2 lengths that I said is best to replace, one at 1430mm, and the other I'm thinking of askin a mate joiner to make a timber replacement as it wont crack again, see pic

Pre fab, or run in situe?

The rest I have just said fill as it will only crack again anyways..

thanks again

It's not listed by the way so what I was going to do with this part was cut out that whole area, run some 3x2 board an skim then replace with timber over the top to match in with existing..

What do you reckon?

The original I think bud, Victorian 1800s..

just patching in where needs replacing, due to it moving..

If there's on goin movement what's the point of doin anything spanky? Is the structural engineer/insurers not doin anything bout the movement? What's causing it??... Is the cornice loose anywhere?

she wants to decorate, the structural engineer just said it fell under decoration she was a bit vague really, when I asked has it stopped moving shrug o the shoulders.. It's pretty ruff man like half of the house Is falling away, one side is 3 story an the other 2, I'm no structural engineer but, surely underpinning or something is in order..

I've said to her I will render mesh on some of the walls and skim but I can't guaranty it won't crack again..

Loose coving that I have taken pics of hence will replace and make good.

dont know about insurances etc..

Yeh mate, would have thought there would have been further investigation??? Anyway not your problem,no guarantees on your side of things.:RpS_thumbup: take care taking down the cornice, sometimes you can end up chasin it to somthin solid.

if you can get a good joiner to replicate the cornice in timber then that would be the way to go expense wise. V out the cracks, fill and sand, it's all you can do:RpS_thumbup: as you said it will all crack again.

Get in and out quick tho..... Before the place feckin falls down:RpS_scared::RpS_laugh::RpS_laugh:

My though exactly ;), will only be replacing the tourus looking cornice around the light fitting with timber, the other I was hoping to get pre fabbed...

cheer fats :RpS_thumbsup:

Certainly looks in-situ from the photo's and cannot see any probs with replacing with fibrous. As Fatarm says have a good check before u start taking it down for a good solid point to start your joints at or u can end up chasing your a##se later and have a job much bigger than u priced for (yes i made that mistake many years ago) as for the moulding under the light fitting if you have a router and a spare half hour you could do that yourself easy enough. that said i have seen me make a quick running horse and used sheet plastic or old lino for the profile and just run a small moulding like that with multi with a bit cement in to make it go off quicker and u can get a descent finish if u know the craick

I bet if you got a pad saw and cut a straight cut either side you would get that off in one piece, put it back up and patch inbetween, if not run a piece in situ.

This isn't my forte what so ever.. I've never run cove in situe so wouldn't know where to start..

Do you reckon I could get the same fabricated? I'm hoping so.. Will be ringing round a few fellas i know see what they think..

cheers

We done a skimming job last year in London had a fibrous plastering firm come out and cut out a peace and run a mold for us.
