Pregrit - any good?

I have a lot of silk painted artex walls/ceilings to skim, in the past I used a couple of coats 3-1 water/PVA but someone in the trade said they see a lot of plasterers using pregrit.

It looks good stuff but what's the feeling about it here and any tips?

I use this.
expensive but great product

Grit every time for me... To many times ive been to jobs, put pva on and its still piss wet nearly an hour later.... Cementone plasterers primer is my grit of choice as bg one is the price of liquid gold, blue grit goes on really clumpy and un even and the yellow bond it one can run and drip....

Still better than waiting overnight for s**t grit??

Stop using cheap pva for a start. Unibond super pva dry in 10 mins.

The cheaper the pva the longer it hangs

How can you go on it tacky when it dries in ten mins...... .. Only joking fella... On reskims i use more sbr than pva....

Whatever is in the van that needs using up gets thrown on! Even if that means mixing SBR with PVA slap the s**t on and get it skimmed and get the f**k outta there woo hoo! Ain't nobody got time for that!

If you ever have to remove old overskim from a pva background
You will realise how s**t it is & not fit for purpose
Not to mention the plaster finish will be inconsistent patchy drying out most blame multi finish but that is what all chancers do blame the tools or materials !
Pva is only meant for wood & as a sealer

Mate pva been around way before these grits existed lol

Thanks for all the answers, So far it’s about 50/50 pregrit or PVA, which do I go with??

I have used PVA in the past in my own house and friends/family houses with no problems but I can’t remember skimming over silk painted artex which I have to do in this house, done plenty of stipple ceilings with no trouble..

What about a special mix of 3-1 PVA to include some kiln sand or bonding, anyone use these type mixes to key the surface a bit?

Well if the customer takes a scraper to the wall that's their problem.

I've used grit 3 times, 2 times it's blown, so never again for me. Cheap Wickes PVA mixed up 50/50 in a big bucket, slapped on the walls and away ya go

I find the cheap pva hang . Tried em all but always go back to unibond super

I usually score the walls when I'm going over silk paint, then PVA. Just go mental with a Stanley knife for 10mins. No idea if it does any good but least I can say I tried lol

Put 2 coats on ceilings today and was dry by the time I got all my tools out the van and buckets full of water. It was 20year old plasterboard on the ceilings mind

I use to swear by pre grit but since multi finish has evolved it does not seem like pre grit as much.

With pva there is still some suction and that seems to trowel up a lot better.

I only plaster over dry pva as well.

Not used sbr inside yet... one day I may do

Try cementone plasterers primer, recommended for use over artex.
expensive but should do job.
on shiny paint test adhesion by sticking a good adhesive tape on and pull off after about ten mins.

You make your missus dress up as a roll of tape, don’t you?
