Im new to plastering and need some advice. I have done a job bonding out and skimming a chimney breast, the original brickwork has been varnished to prepare the surface for bonding plaster i applied several coat of fairly strong PVA-water solution.

Is this an adiquate way to prime the surface or will i get bond failure?

I would have thought if the varnish had a strong bond then you could just use bonding straight on it. Its designed for low/no suction.
How come it wasn't just browned or hardwalled straight onto the medium/high suction brickwork?

I would only use s/c on an old chimney with a water proofer added ,any damp in the stack will come through bonding ,but that me each to there own
