wondered what people on here recommend to protect limestone sills, lintels and general masonry next to the areas being rendered.....i like to get a nice tight sharp finish to the adjacent areas....on internal work or on traditional work where i'm going up to beams or wooden sills, cloth tape is brilliant, where i pull back once firm but not set and run a nice tight edge once removed...any suggestions greatly appreciated:RpS_thumbup:

Recently did a job with exposed stone lintels, mullions and sills. It was already boarded for us (badly) so we had to cover and skim up to/around them.

I couldn't get a damn thing to stick at first. It wasn't dust coz I brushed the hell out of them. My best guess was the coldness of the stone....same as scrim doesn't stick well when the boards are cold.

The only stuff that would stick was ducting tape, the foil stuff that has a paper on one side that you peel off.

This stuff No Nonsense Aluminium Foil Tape 48mm x 45m | Screwfix.com

Usually mega tape from R&J but most merchants sell it. It's when the stone is cold or damp nothing seems to work. I have warmed the tape up before and that makes it stickier.

I was masking up last week around windows with masking tape prior to applying silicone around the windows and I couldn't get anything to stick to the silicone bucket coat! Any idea anybody.
