Pulling of a job.

Ok lads.

I've got a price job on the go. it's quite big (for me)

I've been there for the past 5/6 weeks. and I'd say it's 70% done.

I'm always loyal to my customers and always see a job through but I've got to keep my regulars happy also. so I've had a day or two a week off this job to keep my regulars happy and keep some money coming in.

I've let a good customer down on a loft conversion which was hard for me and I don't want to do that again.

I'm running out of things to do on this job now. I need to top coat the gaball end but I've got another 2 lads dropping that with me end of this week until then I'm stuck.

ibe got a square room above the garage that I need to dab and skim but can't until the pipes are in and a stud is built (that I offered to do).

ideally I need to pull of for a week and then come back for a straight run of 8/10 working days. But I don't think they will wear it.

I'm racking my brains how to word it, the husband is sort of trying to run the job, he thinks he's a project manager but he really isn't. The wife is lovley but a panicer I'm her knight In shining armour and I don't want to upset them.

what's my best call?

Tell them what needs to be done for you to enable you to crack on until they get it sorted then you off. Straight talk is always best

I agree with @zolco....
Tell them straight. Mention what needs to be done in front of you. Also tell them that as important as they think they are, you have other customers. Tell them that they are also promised some of you time and as their jobs are ready, you will go to do them. Make it clear that running a business like plastering is like spinning plates.....rushing about a bit now and then.
Remind them that a break is as good as rest, and that you will be back because you are not a tosser.
They will understand.
Good luck.

Had the same s**t last year took on a big job and lost son many small jobs that would of been more money and easier, sit him down and explain if he doesn't get s**t sorted you need to drop on to other jobs but will be back.

Depends how much money you have pulled off the job and what’s sitting there for when your finished,as long as the majority is done stress there is no point you being there until certain things are in place

This - if the OP has done what he can, then the Man can't complain about what he can't, surely?

What's he want him to do, stand on site with his hands in his pockets?

Have to do what makes sense for your business , I've just lost two or three good jobs because I was busy on a job , now I'm doing a day here and there

I'd just tell them what you told us mate, always impossible to please everyone , tbh I just go for the easiest days work I can find has always worked well for me

You can afford it, suppose you have had to make the Albanians go back to washing cars again ain’t ya

If you're project managing the whole job then its a bit different as its your own fault if the plumber hasn't done his first fix or at least bad luck and a case of wearing it. Doesn't look good if you're starting other jobs in that scenario, but it sounds like its not your fault.

If you’ve been held up since Youve been there because of some one else’s fault , you coukd blame that and say you had work booked in for such And such a date and because you was held up earlier on in the job it’s had a knock on affect , you was hoping to turn it around butits not been possible (y)

Will be a game changer if you say while your not doing what you priced for your gonna have to charge day work until the bits you priced for are ready

So nothing is immediately ready you have to go elsewhere until it's ready or they pay you daywork and you toss it off until they get some areas ready?

Straight talkin s the best give them a list of what u need sorting and a date u ll b back then go to ur other jobs after all if ur not spreading ur not earning.. unless they want to pay u a day rate to sit at their job drinkin a brew and reading the paper..their call!!

Ohh the joys of juggling jobs

Best to be honest tell them what your plan is
See you in a week

Bloody hell @roryston I thought it was about a milf pulling you off on a job ffs lol o_O

all sorted lads.

I explained the situation and the fact I got jobs racking up behind me that for the sake of my business I need to get done.

Also played the "drying times" card on the external render.

I'm working away in derby for 2 days Monday and Tuesday but "i'm waiting for my supplier for the terolyn"

all good. fair play to you lads who got more than 3 big jobs on a time and you keep them working against eachother. I can imagine the stress it can cause you lot.
