PVA outside

Pva emulsifies left in damp or wet conditions and turns into a paste in these conditions use sbr.

I did jobs over 20 years ago when I was learning that used PVA outside and they are still going strong.

And you only get a 10 year guarantee with UPVC windows

surely for dust contamination PVA is ok to use outside? and to kill suction?

Not to stick the render to the wall though I agree that is a no no.

I use pva outside all the time but only when I do a hack off and re render.

I use a very weak mix just to kill/control the dust ... something like a 8-1 mix.

I then let dry for a day or so then render away

glad Im not the only one then, after reading some of the guys on here I started thinking I was doing something wrong, cant see what harm it can do using it for those reasons though!

Ive always used a weak solution of pva and water on the devil coat before alpining just to make doubly sure all the suction has gone. Its probably the only time though

Dont listen to all you hear on the forum. A lot of people are sheep and just follow what the next person says.

Dont be afraid to voice your opinion and try different methods (within reason)

Amen to that!

This forum has proved on many ocasions that people use different methods to get the same results.

i agree ;) ;D

although i always use sbr outside.

I had never even heard of such a thing as pva outside until I read it on this forum.

it did not exist in my world but i suppose the internet forum world has all sorts of people - plasterers people who call themselves plasterers and people who think they are plasterers so be prepared for anything out of the ordinary

when i was learning the only time we ever used pva outside was when we were patching in dashing into the existing on an extension. just over the join area as the gear would usually go onto the existing slightly.

with regards to suction on old outside stuff, a lot of hosepiping, till it ran clear not dirty, so no dust, and then usually done in 3 coats. slurry coat one day. then scratch then float.

funny thing tho is that we used to top coat over a scratch the next day as long as it wasnt green quite a lot if we were busy and never seemed to have any problems. but i always try and leave it a few days now.

But be prapared to be shot down ;)

as I said I use pva on hack offs only just to control the dust. a lot of houses down here are built from rubble and the morter is so soft and powdery I could sit there all day with a hose just washing out the joints.

Where there is a lot of mechanical key there is no problem doing what I do
