Artex thats been painted with vinyl silk, to be precise! So what's the general take on it? I've used WBA in the past but due to circumstances (a bit skint and wickes is miles away) is using PVA pointless over silk emulsion? I know for a fact it WILL hang for ages and time is money!!

Don't take this the wrong way mate but when people are paying for materials I don't get it when people say I can't afford this and that ?

If you have to use pva, score the surface and maybe chuck a bit of sand In your pva, let it dry, skim her

casper ive covered miles of artex and every time ive used PVA never ever had a prob
I get in the place get the dust sheets down, give the artex a scrape with my floor scraper to knock the rough top off then I PVA it (not watered down too much), then I go get the rest of my tools in giving it chance to 'tacky' up a bit

I shouldn't really say this BUT i have skimmed over loads of silk ceilings without any primers in years gone by. It's like playing russian roulette though!

Exactly, and you will find thousands of spreads been doin this for years, without any problems

Iwonder why we dont get many genuine enquiries on this forum any more:RpS_unsure:

Of course (no pun intended) we do. I'm being totally serious. The bottom line is......how well does multi finish stick to Vinyl silk? I have done a lot of ceilings and yes, i have skimmed directly over silk and have had no comeback!!! More often than not though i will use WBA or PVA

Skimmed directly over silk emulsion!!!!
It will fall off trust me!!
I should know i found out the hard way.
I skimmed a kitchen ceiling & walls over silk on a saturday after a night of partying.
Anyway i couldn't remember if i had pva'd it the day before or not
so i risked it as i was feeling rough.
Customer phoned a week later it came off in sheets!!!! as he started rolling it with paint roller.
I felt like crying on the way home after i'd been to see it.
I had to give him the money back ffs!

So Casper i don't know how long you've been plastering but maybe if you get in with a plasterer who has been doing it a bit longer than you for some experience matey.
All the best.

FFS i nearly spat my beer oot there Dunc. I've got 25 years of plastering experience. There weren't any courses back then!! I had to do it the old fashioned way. :RpS_laugh:

oh yeah youll have to wait till he gets the tranny orrrr in return for him teaching you you could give him your transit:RpS_sneaky:
