Quotes over the phone

Most of the phone calls i get lately for private jobs, want me to give them a rough quote over the phone.

Is this normal, do you lads get this much?

I always say i need to look at the job to see what materials i need, lol.

Just had a call then, client wanted a rough quote for a 15 by 11 feet room, ceiling aswell.

And i said without looking £250 0r £200 without the ceiling.

Is that about right, don't know why i said that, seems to cheap.

Yeah does seem to cheap to me. I never quote blind over the phone. How high is the ceiling? Is the room carpeted/carpet removed? Is there a polished floor that needs protecting? All these things can take up time so need to be paid for.
I do get asked this quite a lot, 1 I do get quite alot is "How much to skim a bedroom?"
When I say how bigs the room the phone always goes quiet!

Seems to be happening more and more regular this. Mind you it does save you running to the other side of town to find that they had a cheaper quote off Joe just down the road

I had a call about 2 weeks back, some woman asked me how much I charge a day, so I told her and she said she wants her full house doin and she said its gonna take me 8 days to do it. For a minute I thought I was the plasterer. ???
