Hi,
I am just starting out and Iwas wondering what is the best way when quoting a job. Is it by square metre, or do you tend to price per say average wall/ceiling (no complications). As I am going to price a job today and I think it's straight forward and I need to get on the Plastering Ladder.
Cheers :)

i dont personally charge by the meter, i just quote for what i think the job is worth and i include the price of materials in with the quote but keep them seperate so they know what it is they're paying for, but if its just a reskim and only needs a few bags of plaster ill just tell them a price while im there 8-)

as above, but you can price up by the day, see how long you think it'll take you, morning, 1 day etc and work it out on how much you want to earn per day. i also have a minimum price, if a job is going take more than 3hrs i'll charge for a day.

I decide what I want from the job then add mats, lab, sundries etc.
As a guide though I look for £130-£150 a day.
That's domestics of course

if its domestic work then you should be looking at 200 a day plus materials, do not be afraid to make a profit even as a sole trader you are entitled to do this its a business not a charity.

I see your point gps but if you're just starting out and need to get established you need to get jobs. High quotes=less jobs until you get known and your reputation spreads so they pay more,
I make as much profit as I need on my rates. If I charged more I'd just be being greedy.
My thinking anyway :)
