Is it wrong that some customers you just want to punch ?

Got a call Sunday evening to ask if I could take a look at a job. Bedroom ceiling and walls, wants it doing asap, ok I say I can take a look Monday evening and I have a day free Tuesday, perfect they say.

So I go take a look not realising the job is about 40 minutes away. Turn up and the bloke is plastering the walls, there so bad I could have climbed up em, so now he just wants hes ceiling skimming which is artexed. Its In a bit of a state and the artex is pretty thick, size of the room 2.8m x 4 about. I quote him what I think is a fair price of £125 and that includes the materials, I think thats pretty cheap. He says to me that he's already had one quote of £75 ??!! and has got another plasterer on the way for a third quote ??

1/ How tight are some people ? If you call a tradesman out they need to make a living

2/ The dxxkhead whos quoting £75 to skim a ceiling like that. After materials he'll probably come out with £60 then hes got his tax, national insurance, fuel, advertising, etc etc etc

I dont really have a point just pixsed off

if we stuck together we could charge em for estimates and an extra £170 on any bodge job to put right also a cup of tea and acream cake on arrival.....and possibly a go with his missis if shes a looker..that should sort out the timewasters ;D

she dosent have to be a looker once she suck s like a dyson ;D

know what you mean was at the pub on Sunday these two so called spreads came in covered in gear they both worked the beast part of a sunday for £30 each >:(really makes you want to throw in the towel or trowel.

Your right mate you cant compete with the £75 guys.Your price of £125 is still cheap but a fair price for a easy mornings work.
Ive priced jobs recently where the price had been £80 for a days work after materials, like you say if your running a buisness you cant compete with that, but many of the guys out there are 2 week coursers with no overhaeads and just need beer money as there signing on anway!!!
This trade is dying and i cant understand why people are hell bent to learn the the trade on these courses.

ive got to board and skim an old hatch way, the mats are gonna cost £10-15 and i want £50 for doing it as its on my street. ill do it one night after work. how can you compete when some plasterers will do a whole days work for not much more?!

In all honesty, doing private work Im looking to earn between £100-£200 a day depending on the job, and I believe this is a fair price considering the over heads and skill involved. It seems the public dont appreciate the effort that goes into plastering. Personally I think its one of the most demanding trades. You ever see a sparkes break out in a sweat ?

I feel like plasterers are at the bottom of the barrel, getting paid less than bloody decorators.

i dis a small job for a customer just round the corner from me i was reccomended and doing nowt it was 1 and 1/2 x 4x3 board and skim i told him i charge £40.00 per hour plus materials i got £175.00 for 4 hours work... 2 of which i was sitting in the van drinking coffee and smoking tabs....

You could be pricing against a lad who works for the councill or similar doing a foreigner, so isnt paying for his van or tools or even the gear.

He finishes his day at 3 o clock and goes and bangs aceiling on for 75 quid and its actually a nice earner for him.

I aint saying its right I'm just pointing out a possibility.

Yeh nellys rite i've priced loads of jobs in the past when they have said oh the other quote was X amount less than you & I said well the materials come to X amount & the customer says well he's getting all the materials from his work for free?
