Been reading some old posts from a year or two ago on ratedpeople and it seems that wether it's good or not is a bit undecided. Is anybody doin well/getting work from this at the moment and if so was it tough getting going with regards to building a reputation? Seen some decent jobs come and go on it!

I used to use it.with Not alot of sucess i might add.I had a few good jobs but the problem is you get more timewasters than jobs from it.
I.E so when you pay for example £16 for the lead then you ring them up and the number doesnt exist or they say they were only testing the site to see if it worked or they didnt even want the work doing
or dont reply to emails.
then you have to go through a whole pelavour to get you money back,But instead of giving you your money back they allow you another free credit towards the next lead but this could be for £100 job not the £3000 full reskim you paid for,the website is floored and i dont waste anymore time with it.
Also they dont always give you the credit back either so then ur out of pocket and didnt even get to quote for the job.

Not liking the sound of that! Just playin with a few ideas to pick up work and someone mentioned it. I'll give it up as a bad idea!!! Thanks for the reply skimmin :)

IMO the people who look for work via bid down sites are tight c*nts they are looking to pi55 you about plus sites like that ruin our trade and cheapen it. why should a spotty bum with a website make more money from plastering than a qualified plasterer

used to be on it wanted £16 for a poxy patching job you get punters putting no budget on the job they are just looking for spreads to cut each others throats with the price went on one job to quote on patching up a doorway and skimmimg it the tw-t had just had a full loft conversion done so where was he to do the smaller job

As long as tradesman are desperate for work these feckers are milking it! A sign of the times. Makes me sick.

I was explaining this to the owner of an Environment magazine the other day in fact I got a mention in the editorial for something unrelated

https://content.yudu.com/Library/A1...Environment-Industry-Magazine-Jan---Feb-Issue

Anyway, I was saying going for the cheapest is sometimes the best route but not allways.

If you need a skip the cheapest is best because 'a skip is a skip', same as a packet of fags, '20 bensons is 20 bensons'

But going for the cheapest tradesman isnt necassarily going to get you the one you want.

Unfortunately because everything is so expensive in this country people naturally are allways looking to keep expenditure to a minimum, I do and you do.

just had an idea. i was looking on that mybuilder cus i'm bored. i've not signed up or anything. they give you the street of where the job is but not the number of the house. whats stopping you going down the whole st and posting flyers. cost no more than a fiver and theres a good chance that person will give you a bell surely?

like that one stevo!

ah stevo if u look they dont give away the street just a bank space but still within a few roads

Thought of this aswell. On ratedpeople it pinpoints an area on a street on google maps. Worth knockin on a few doors!

The problem being though on my buildert there is usually about 15 people at least going for each job. So your price would have to be pretty low to compete

rated can be ok .but there are other trades on there posing as customers .you just have to not get carried away when you see all the leads :)

wow i think weveved the lead payment. just land a few flyers in the road that should sort it! everyone likes a local!

Theres still no getting away from the fact most the leads are boguss and you have to pay for a lead which could be bogus so why bother tasking the risk paying £16 for a lead???? unless its a £4000 job but then the lead wil be gone in a flash before you can bid anyhow.

I use rated people now and again when work is tight.

I have had some good repeat business out of the few jobs I have done.

I wish I didnt have to use it but sometimes I just need the work.

Its true that you get messed about a lot. I always worry when quoting and end up going in cheap so I stand a better chance of getting the job and not losing my money.

skimmin, on mybuilder you dont have to pay for a lead, i think you bid. but it gives you the street for free. worth a fiver for some flyers if your short of work surely?

im not that short of work mate.i would just rather pay the fee than go delivering leaflets on a wild goose chase.Im registered on my builder but never gota job from it in my 3 month period so gave up on that idea.
a lot of advertising is down to luck also i think.
