Hi All,

I was drilling into my walls at the weekend to put up a new TV bracket, the walls are solid down to the brick (not sure what the plaster stuff is called) I noticed some very fine looking thread type things in the plaster I was drilling into, wasnt sure if this could be asbestos or something else so thought I would ask the experts for advice.

thanks, Rob

House is circa 1890, no idea when this particular coat of plaster stuff was done, its not a very good finish and doesnt appear to have any "modern" skim coat on top

Sounds like its just old pubic hair that they used to put in plaster to give it strength . I was told by an old spread that ginger pube's were best as they were the strongest.:RpS_thumbup:

Yeah, the labs genitalia were shaved every Monday morning back then. It's a little known but true fact.

i wunt worry to much about it ,,,if you've got it from drilling a tiny hole (oooeeeerrrr missess)then about 90% of builders are completley phuket.....the mining industry got claims for everything going ,it'll be us soon ,,,sit tight ,,wait for [email protected] to contact you for a health claim ,,,,no worries.

Just think how many artex ceilings you have scraped back for overskim...........

Shouldn't worry about drilling a hole.

Hi Rob

Asbestosis takes years to develop and usually is as a result of lots of exposure..... not just drilling an odd hole.....

Most asbestos is plaster is held together by the plaster and is more a problem when it becomes airborn dust as a result of mass removal or demolision....... as said above it was very common to add horse hair to plaster way back to act as a binder as well....

BTW - when the weight of the TV takes the old plaster off the wall...... come back and ask for someone to patch it up mate! :rolleyes)
