Recovering from open Hernia surgery! 5 weeks post recovery and doctors insist I can return 4-6 weeks post operation. Scared I’m going back too early?

So I need some advice from people that have been in the same position! Self employed so want to get back to work to start earning but worried I’ll go back and will just damage it right away

Colleagues had it done

Don't rush back. It can complicated and be worse if you do.

Also it depends on how the op goes I think. Some are less intrusive keyhole ops and some are opened right up.

Cheers! Yeah went pretty well to be honest. It was open surgery and still a tad sensitive. Ain’t worth my life if I go back too early and damage it haha mrs will forever say I told ya so.

@hector any advice for this fella?

P.S. try not to make him slit his wrists you miserable old b*****d.
approx 3 months ago , i seen doctor at 10.00am , and was sent to a & e at cumberland infirmary, this department was a real eye opener, and you can imagine how pleased i was when i was told there was no beds available and i had to spend the night on a chair in the a & e, so the rest of the night the local barmpots/drunks came in , swearing/shouting , a different world, but i did make a new freind , simon, who talked to me constantly on his views on everything , oh and i almost forgot he had a freind , an invisible freind but none the less a freind for him, ,,,,,,oh how the night passed quickly , so anyhoooooooo , in the morning i said good bye to simon and his invisible freind, and off i went to a trolley , pushed by a huge tattoed porter called susan, who told me in no uncertain terms , that he was going thru the change , and was neither male or female, ........fine by me sue i said as he pushed me off to theatre, so i had the operation and kept in overnight, next day i was allowed to go home, which was just as well as i had a ceiling to skim 2 days later,........but fate stepped in again,........oh the howls of laughter/pointing at me, from the doctors and nurses will stay with me for a long time, .......no no no hector , thats not how it works, do nothing for 6 weeks, no putting bins out/no lifting heavy weights/no driving for approx 10 days, and now some 7 weeks later only now getting back to work, which i am just about managing,.............but i do have fond memories of our health service, the warm laughs/sniggering /pointing from the nurses, the local barmpots, simon and his invisible freind, and of course sue the porter,.............rest and take it easy jordy before you go back , dont rush back.

Hector thanks a lot for this mate, much appreciated! good to get some advice from someone who’s been/going through it! Every time the doctors asked me my profession and I replied ‘plasterer’ they gave me a look as though I have just insulted their entire family…pure confusion. So I’m not convinced they’re in a position to say when is acceptable to go back to work but yeah you’re right6-7 weeks is probably best. This coming Tuesday will be 5 weeks so perhaps I’ll leave it to the 6th week see how I feel and go from there. Failing that I’ll see if Susan has any jobs going. Cheers mate really appreciate the help!
