Had me mm30 mega mixer die on me last week...needed one pronto...couldnt get it fixed etc would have taken to long ...sooo. rang up refina and they sent me one by 10am next day, with 100 quid worth in free tools also. BUT.....paint on whisk was coming off immedietly , and coming off in mix after just 2 mixes. so ready for an arguement i rang up......top guys sent me a brand new whisk..didnt ask for old one back..took me on my word and was delivered by next day. Yes there are companies out there selling that moixer cheaper than refina...but u wont get 100 quid worth of free tools and a service like that...was well impressed......and the mixer makes a completly different noise to the old one ( which i bought second hand and whinned more than me mrs)...

how bad is the old one phippsy? will a good service new brushes etc sort it or do you reckon the windings gone?

chris power just died......tranny is fine so def mixer ..could be bushes ....could be trigger ,/ electrics,,lead is tested ok but has 3 pin plug 4 inch from handle..dont ask.....no continue side button and its left hand side bar for its trigger ,where as new one is on right....doubt its gearings...was working good, its dirty as f**k..but paddle clean..one corner bungs missing....u open for offers? ill send a pic lol

yeh quite possibly mate... nowt like stripping the old things down and givin em a good greasing up!

you dont get them tools free they just overcharge you for the mixer alfra eibenstock who make them do the same one in orange alot cheaper

it can only ever be one or several of 4 things really phippsy...
trigger...
lead / connection
brushes
windings... if its this its a new motor and really needs someone who can get old of a motor cheap... (prolly the most expensive item in the tool)

the whinings likely to be dust in the bearings (new uns would be good, should beable to source em from refina)

if it spits and farts and sparks for a while before it dies its the brushes...

if it starts and stops and starts again its either the trigger or the lead/connection

if it just stops dead without warning it either windings (dead), trigger (bypass it to test) or lead/connection (check it with a multimeter)

yeah i know gary, but it makes me feel better.lol....but was onsite and needed now so get it tommorrow.didnt know anyone else..i didnt know about the orange one tho.....is that h bar too..
chris it wernt sparking....did cut out a couple of times previous day..but thouggt this was moody power lead running to jenny

very prolly trigger or even your connection mate...
ill take it off your hands if its cheap but theyre a good mixer, with a bit of tlc it'll last a good while and you could always keep it for spare or use it for big jobs where you got others using your tools... not good when some numpty gets hold of your gear and drops it in a bath of hardwall...
once you got it stripped, order the bits you need from either eibenstock or refina and spend a wet saturday afternoon on the kitchen table with a couple of pozi screwdrivers and a tin of copper grease..
I once picked up a heavy duty makita breaker, one of the old style ones off a car boot for twenty quid... gave it to south lincs plant hire and they had it good as new for 30 quid..
50 quid spent... 500 quid breaker..
if i could afford to give you a bit more for it I would mate, but im skint! and its always good to have a spare machine..

We put our MM30 mixer in for a repair as apparently the gears and motor were gone,it was only a year and a half old. Refina serviced it and put new gears and motor in it, cost us £200, when it came back it was'nt as powerful! Very strange! We've got a M22 which is older than the MM30 and its much better. Should'nt of been mixing porridge with it!

Am I the only person still using a bumper? They cost about a tenner and last for years, do have to replace the labourer occasionally though!

Yes bumper/plunger/ploddger all the same thing. Some of the lads I've had over the years have actually preferred using them to a drill even though they've had the choice.

Your spot on Grand and if mixing up by hand is to hard for someone then they are hardly likely to have the go to spread 100 mts a day either.

Sent my mixer in last week for a service, thought I'd have it back by now but no word, phoned Refina they said ever so sorry but they've got a back log, short staffed, if I've not heard anything by Wed to give em a ring, they've not unpacked it yet!!! Told them I need it back before Monday!

What is the correct way to mix up by hand ??? I bought one of those wheel jobbies the other day to try it out, after mixing up one builders bucket of dot and dab i was fit for nothing.

Whats the secret ?

Rich

the secret is use it once, throw in skip :D, left hand at the top, right hand at the bottom, up and down, but moving it anti clockwise at the same time, keeping the wheel under the surface, takes a bit of practice, if you bring the wheel above the surface it will splash, good for stomach muscles, thats it, does set better as said

ive got a plunger.....its clean that s cause i hardly ever use it...f**k that...mix does seem to be better when i do it by hand...but not enough for me to want to mix buckets on the spin ....mega mixer or likewise all the way....spin it job done....in saying all that .......paint has come off on new paddle again..thought that paint was supposed to be heat sealed on.......my old one lasted ages before paint came off....had 2 in 2 weeks and paint coming off in mix withing 2 mixs of either...you can pull it out fairly easily ..but pain in the aris before i got a wire brush to them.

The best way to mix using a plunger is to mix the plaster to the required thickness using a stick(piece of batten about 30inches long) and then holding the plunger with your right hand at the top(assuming you're right handed) and your left hand about a foot lower down the handle you basically push and pull the plunger up and down as quickly as you can until there are no lumps visible, only takes a matter of seconds with practice.
