render on sandstone bricks

ive just been asked to internal render over sandstone bricks, not sure sand and cement will key to the bricks. has anyone had to do this and what would be the best way to go about this. thanks

weaker mix?

its all sandstone round here, seal it with sbr and then like chris says a weaker mix , if there's any pos of damp you want to forget the sbr and cement and go with lime render and lime skimcoat
