From the bottom of the belcast i've removed about a foot of render high by a bout 8 feet wide, this goes back to the brick.

I added a scratch coat the other day and today I am added the top coat.

Do i need to add a piece of tape where the old render will meet the new at the join?

..any other tips welcome :)

I would have added a raised plinth or band so you wont see the join. with the best will in the world it will be very hard to avoid a scar

Its ok, i'm the customer :) its my house.

We rendered it last year but the roofer had to remove cut up for his lead flashing.

FOrtunately the area isn't in direct view from the garden.

You could have disked in a vertical lead flashing with the apron tucked under it, then tacked a bell bead above the lead flashing and blended the cement render in. Minimal scarring visible then.
