Hi all need a bit if advice. Hi have a extension with two round bays on it. They both need rendering under the the window. One has been took back to brick and the other is a timber frame. The timber frame one the builder is going to put cement boards on and mesh it?? Not sure on them with sand and cement??
What's best system for both? Could I use jub system for both maybe??

Don't use s/c onto render boards...it will crack, use base coat, mesh, primer and texture...

So what your saying is use jub boards ?

Artisan is right, use a render carrier board like Render-Pro or Aquapanel and a thin coat system...remember to leave a 4 mm gap between the boards, fill it with Acrylic mastic not silicone mastic and then apply the system

Yeah I know you can't use s/c onto thin coat render systems just wasn't sure about cement boards the builders wants to put on it!

Seen them done in cp boards but they look segmented. So bottom bay round top one segmented?

can the top one not have base coat and mesh then be built up to round. If so with what?

eg. Weber lac meshed then built up with OCR but meshed again?

Then though unless it is going to be painted or coated the top bay will be a different colour?

Tell them to use the correct boards...I hate it when I go on site and the builder says "here's the ply that you will be rendering onto"

One did have wet dash on it but bare brick now and the extension is timber.
They want both to match .

I am very old school and these modern techniques are baffling to me it was roofing felt and mesh fixed to the batons whenever we did those then scratch etc as normal. top coatday later etc. I'm keen to learn about these new systems hence why I joined the forum. think I should get a mug for this post?? not mugged lol

Call me old fashioned but on this job I would ply, building paper or breathable roofing felt and expanded metal lathing. Then use the same materials as the rest of the job. Never once had a problem in the last 32 years.

Nothing wrong with the old techniques but we give out warranties for our material so we need to use the new methods...

Hi Guys (@gdplastering)

Knauf Aquapanel Exterior can be curved easily down to a 3 mtr radius in full boards sizes and down to 1 mtr rad if you cut the boards into 300mm strips.

This then does not end up with a segmented or facetted board step between the battens, making it easier to create a smooth finished render following the curve of the boards.

Leave 3 - 5 mm gap all around the boards, then as everyone else has said, use the modern thin coat basecoat and mesh (we advise you push the basecoat into the gaps before speading it over the face of the board).

Feel free to get in touch if you want more help or advise - always happy to help further (Details are on my profile)

Getting hold of the materials(carrier board & basecoats, topcoat)can be a issue due to the small amount needed.also the delivery charge for the gear bumps it up if you are not near a supplier.

Bobby

where are you based? who would you normally buy through?

Knauf Aquapanel Exterior is now getting more common and stocked by more outlets - we have next day stocks for delievery to them anyway....

if you want some help sourcing and spliting pallets, let me know

You are all getting to ahead of your selves rip the timber out and get a brickie to build it and SC Render it its only one bay.

Plus take the living room bay window out so you can put the steel work in to support the weight of the bricks for the new bay between the windows.

I'm talking about the likes of Encon and Sheffield insulation.the nearest to me is Plymouth(80 miles)so they charge for orders under a certain amount.

Ok - been a while... sorry

Bobby, more local builders merchants get Knauf gear in regularly as well.....

if they stock Knauf Drywall boards, they can get Knauf Aquapanel - ask them about it.....

Also - the likes of Travis Perkins get product transfers from the larger local CCF branches, and may be more likely to split pallets as a result.

any problems, get in touch and I will see what I can do to try to help
