rendering over cob& lathe(external)

Hacked the front off of a 300 yr old cottage 2day.it`s laths on the 1st floor & cob at the bottom.when i hacked it off the cob,it was 5 inch`s thick!!was gonna eml the lot 2morrow.what`s the best way to fix into cob area?is it best to use normal mesh or lath mesh?

fixed s s eml to cob 2day.used 8 inch nails with red insulation clips that brickies use.worked a treat.
