Rendering over gabian baskets?

Hi all,
I have just moved into a newbuild and have some gabian baskets in the back garden acting as a retaining wall. I want to render over them but am concerned that the water that drains through them will pop the render off and also whether any possible expansion/shrinkage in the metal will pop it off.

How would anyone else tackle this issue?

Any help appreciated

If it's retaining I wouldn't render.
It will most probably fail

Thankyou for your honesty but there must be a way and I have been thinking about pouring very wet concrete down through the baskets to make them solid blocks then render over after that. But i am hoping someone out there may have other ideas

Not suitable for rendering at I'm afraid. If you're set on a render finish, I'd build a block wall in front and render that.

Also if I make the frame on the ground you can cover the back in a vapour barrier then a hydro board like on the back of a retainer so the water hits and runs down. Then stand up and fix in place before boarding

wire tie a cement based backer board onto the cages and render that. I think gabian cages look smart personally though so wouldnt be covering them with anything except perhaps some nice alpine plants.
