Hi guys

I'm new one here (first post) and have been looking into rendering systems for our house. We're rebuilding a 1950's bungalow with solid walls so most is coming down, but some is staying due to budget constraints.

The existing walls will be externally insulated with Kooltherm boards bonded and fixed directly to brickwork. The new build part will be constructed out of blocks to keep costs down. New wall area is about 150sqm and existing is 50sqm. Property will be a 1.5 storey house when finished and most walls will be 2.4m high apart from one section which is approx 3m (about 40sqm with a chimney) and two gable ends one 5.5m high the other 6m high.

I've searched for a while and can't get a clear answer i.e. how much each system would likely cost per sqm as there is so much variation out there! What is a reasonable cost to expect per sqm for this kind of project for both a monocouche and a sand and cement mix, with mesh/fibres to minimise cracking? Based in North Bedfordshire (nr Milton Keynes & Northampton).

Also, what blocks are best for the external cavity leaf for rendering onto?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

You will not get prices on here either, if you leave an email address or work phone number people will contact you re prices.!

You wont be putting sand and cement on insulation board so if you want the new and old parts of the building to match you will need to use a modern render system which have the bonus of having warranties.

The insulation board will need a basecoat then topping with either a acrylic topcoat or a special lightweight mono.

where u based? get someone of here to come and look at it

my guess is he's from North Bedfordshire (nr Milton Keynes & Northampton)..................:RpS_wink:

Cheers chaps. Oh, and by the way, I'm from North Bedfordshire (nr Milton Keynes & Northampton)..................:RpS_wink: :RpS_laugh:

It's not built yet and I'm trying to get an idea of cost for my budgeting...

Cheers again, Jon

Jsr ,post any other queries here that you like, some of us might even have an answer, there are some well informed people here..

make sure you insulation board is render grade either phenolic or EPS - the foil back phenolic is wrong as is the EPS that comes from the likes of travis in 8x4 sheets etc but I have seen builders trying to go it alone with these products - I would seriously give EPS (fr grade) some consideration over Kooltherm K5.

your insulation will be a hi polymer base with a coloured acrylic/silicone finish usually (not the same as monocouche through colour mortar) so for the block sections I would go with sand and cement rendering with the same coloured acrylic/silicone finish (bucket coat) that will match the insulated system - hey presto, it all looks the same.

good luck

Cheers again everyone. More food for thought.

I'm only looking for costs on the rendering at present as I'm doing a fair amount myself to keep costs down.
