Hi all,

I'm new to this forum & just lost my first new post, I registered, then went direct to new thread/message, finished message to post, but got slung back to login, my message lost. Oh well, I'll keep this second one brief.

I'm in the process of preparing plans for a new build timber frame house in South Devon. It's an open panel system, 38x140mm cls/als studs with a render carrier-board external render finish. I've initially specified a system called a PRO-WALL from SAS, but have struggled getting quotes for this project, so my first question is:-

1) Can anyone recommend a similar system & applicator/company I can approach to get quotes from.

2) As just a single wall, i.e. not cavity walling, can anyone recommend a waterproof render or other below dpc level/soleplate level to cover over the new exposed masonry, this is a block & beam upper ground floor band of about 150mm tall with infill bl'wk. It's a split level property, with one elevation showing this 150mm tall strip below dpc level, then the side elevations transition downwards to a complete lower storey. This lower ground floor level is an existing rendered structure built of 450mm wide stonework with bl'wk piers forming a garage door entrance. So thinking of sand blasting the old painted render off first.

Ps. the property is right next to the beach, so any rendering type has to be quite hardy.

All the best,
Clayton.

Hi Clayton

My name is Richard Lord and I am the Knauf Aquapanel Exterior Specification Manager......

Knauf Aquapanel Exterior is a BBA Certified, direct render carrier board and is very similar to the SAS ProWall board, and will be installed in almost exactly the same way. (SAS ProWall is a very good system - it suprises me that no one wants to price it for you....). Knauf Aquapanel Exterior is available from many sources and has been used my MANY applicators all over the UK and in Devon.

Knauf Aquapanel Exterior is approved for use with many different render systems, which can offer various finishes......(The SAS ProRend Renders can be applied to Knauf Aquapanel Exterior as well - in case you have already approved one of their finishes).

Your query about a product for applying to your block / foundation level, below the DPC, if you contact me I can advise several render system suppliers who can offer a finish for the Knauf Aquapanel Exterior and the below DPC level (do not use the same materials - below DPC needs to have a special 'more' waterproof material)

My contact details can be found on my profile (click on my name and then click the 'view profile' tab)..... or 07918766577 [email protected]

Hopefully speak soon

Good Luck

Richard Lord

Clayton says the project is near a beach........ do you want to do the work, to ease you way back into life in the UK.....? (No - we do not want to see your white bits..... or even your tanned areas to be honest!)

BTW Clayton - Knauf Aquapanel Exterior is tested for use on projects next to the sea - we have many reference projects with beach front elevations.

Hi Clayton,

As Richard says above, the Knauf Aquapanel Board is a very high quality board and is the board we would recommend.

We provide the JUB Thin-cost system, and it is approved to go over the Aquapanel board. The JUB systems do also have BBA approval. Manufacturer guarantees are available

We have recently supplied contractors with the JUB topcoats - Nanosil and Unixil in areas with very tough conditions like coastlines and the products have performed amazingly well. We would happily offer a quote on the JUB Render only system to you and also provide specification details for it.

Please feel free to give me a call on 01242 236699 and we can discuss prices and products and also recommend contractors in your area
