When dry the surfaces is grey in colour with a slight texture surface. I did think the render was just going to slump on it, but it never . I gave it a scratch coat only for the fact I was not sure on what suction to expect on this back ground . Had I not had plasprime X on this brickwork I would expect high suction and having to leave the scratch coat for a week before applying the float coat.

So after about 2 hours the scratch coat had pick up and I gave it the float coat again the render sat nicely on the scratch coat and it was really good to rule off no slumping.
Two hours laters able to rub up, and a nice uniform suction on all of the area.
THEN IT PISSED IT DOWN:RpS_thumbsup: total thickness about 20mm give or take.

sounds like micro :-)

is there anything actually wrong with applying sand and cement all in one day? i know there is ocr which is designed for it, on blockwork is there anything wrong with just 2 passes?

The thickness was about 20 mml for both coats. not 20mm each coat been back today still very green but a lot of rain and no warm wind to help dry out. To be honest andy I never really have problems with cracking with render odd times on very warm days on a joint .Cost 37.50 + vat a tub. Only the coming months will tell how good plasprime X is I suppose.

I'd be worried about the mortar joints grinning through. Im an oul fecker and favour the (relatively) old methods, but I know Henry knows his weetabix so I'd be prepared to try this new fangled technology :RpS_thumbsup:

I saw this product advertised in The Builder Magazine after reading about it on here so I emailed their technical dept for more info. They rang me the next day and after asking a couple of questions they offered me a sample tub to try out. Got it the next day so lets see how it performs.

Yes I unstand what your saying Eddie, been picking my gear up today and a small patch had a few joints blushing through .
To be honest mate the mortar joints were in a poor condition if any thing should have been re pointed but ££££££ always has the last say in a job. I tell you what it's dried really nice as if I loaded the mix with lime and I can tell it's a good bond onto the plasprime already. I would also say had the weather not been like it has been of late I would have still plasprime x then gave it a scratch coat and left a few days because of blushing through. What we all need in rendering is to be in control of the suction ,:RpS_thumbup:

in australia solid external render is applied in one coat no scratch, put on pretty thick 8inch trpwel only then scraped backed back to where green and rubbed up never a cracking problem
