Hey got a retaining stone wall to render. About 4 metres high by about 6 metres. Was going to power wash it and go over with a wire brush to get all the loose off. Will need a dubbing out coat prior to the scratch. My question is, if i add a waterproofer plasterciser to the scratch will this create problems? ( Not let the wall beathe etc) What mix would you guys use in each coat? nThanks in advance :P

If its an old stone wall built in lime morter thats what it should be rendered in, if your going down the SC cement route and the stone is non porous like flint you may need to betonkontact it first for a key, i would steer clear of waterproofers and admixes on this kind of work.

Thanks for the reply lucius. Well hadn't actually looked at the job till today. Went on what my friend had said the job was. To be honent it's an L shaped wall with one end curving round to some steps. Part of the stone work is shot to bits. Where a lot of the stone has eroded back about 4/5 inches from the face of the wall. So now wondering the best way to build it out. All i know is its deffinataly not a straight forward render job. The stone work joints are in s/c. Was thinking build out the hollows where possible with stone or cut pieces of blocks. Build out out with coats about 11mm think. Then when i get to the stage of scratch coat, was thinking of fixing some stainless steel sheets of eml to hopefully stop any cracking. Am thinking i will go with a sand/cement/lime mix.

Yep thats the way to do it though if their is enough suction in the sandstone you would only need to eml any cracks if the cracks are to bad it is better to stitch them in.
