Have seen my first case of rising damp...it was rising through dwarf walls...showing damp upto a tidal mark around 600mm up from floorboards. Subfloor vents were blocked, we unblocked them put some more vents in and punched some pockets through the dwarf walls and its drying out :)

so the damp was lack of air flow?

Yep It was rising through internal walls, and the dwarf walls rotting the wall plates. Some of the walls were rendered others we just skimmed over the top they were still showing damp after skimming and not drying out. That was about 6 weeks ago...over the last 3 weeks they have gradually been drying out. The air circulation has gradually dried it all out....no injections.

I was looking round a property we were interested in buying.. I fell through the lounge floor...

The downpipe had been leaking for decades and rotted the floor joists... the estate agent was telling me it was rising damp :-\

Yep theres usually a reason for these things, but to be fair to the damp proofers the time it took us to suss it out, install vents etc

It would have been quicker to hack off inject and re render and we wouldn't have to wait for the walls to dry out. But the problem would have come back in 15 years tome and would have done no good for the building but as we all know all about speed these days.

I would have injected it also if you are going down the render route , well i would have advised it to the customer . The bits u reskimmed will be fecked soon a bet sad to say lol

So does it not have a damp course ? Have you thought the old one if it has one might be perished ? So u didnt hack off but unsaid u rendered some ?

I didn't believe rising damp existed...but now I know it does, finding the cause takes time, so injections and re rendering would have been quicker. Now I know it exists...no problem for the future, what we did is fine it will be better for the property, but yes a few salts may need brushing off here and there!

There was a slate dpc on the external walls, didn't see anything on the dwarf internal walls, the property has bad subsidence so it could have been damaged.
