Roof rack plasterboards

Members online

At the moment I have a smaller van and struggling with the amount of kit and space. Obviously getting a bigger van what im going to get told but due to where the van is parked its not an option:cry:. I have seen the roofarack idea and have messaged them to see if they are planning to make a 6x3 version which they are I think next year. Does anyone know of any good roof racks or use one or even a box like the roofarack I could get my hands on. Preferably a unit which is weather proof would be good as don't fancy a standard roof rack and having to tie on then a tarp over the top. Last port of call is going to be contacting a fabricators and having my own one made. Cheers

15 boards, at 15 kg each = 225 kilos, so just shy of a quarter ton on a roof rack. The maximum load for a roof rack on a Caddy (thanks to google) is 100 kg. Get caught by plod and you're fcuked, have an accident and you're fcuked as well as uninsured.

It gives me no pleasure to p1ss on your barbecue, but that's a very bad idea.

If I were in your situation I'd be looking at getting everything delivered. A lot of merchants will deliver small loads and it doesn't work our much dearer.

I don’t understand why racking solutions are suddenly going to make the van longer, even if you had the best racking in the world you have already said you can’t get 6x3 boards in as it’s not long enough

I ran Escort n Berlingo vans for years. With free delivery and buying less boards etc. Ok sometimes it’s a pain. But weigh up how often it really is against the price of buying a new van I’d just soldier on my

I have roof rack on transit connect I bought off ebay. Its heavy duty and I can tie on plasterboard. It really is not good and the biggest mistake I made was buying a small van. I hardly carry any board but every time I load some on I think this is stupid so anything over 4 boards I get delivered.. Buy bigger van with false floor or get it delivered is the way to be go

Load length in the caddy is 178cm so thinking about putting a false floor in and just cutting the bulk head under it so the boards just fit through

I dont do enough plastering these days to warrant getting a van but I have roof bars on the X3 and throw boards on it and it works well...

A van would be a hell of a lot easier but cannot justify that :D

Kind of like it. It's the future, smaller vans to comply with town pollution and size restrictions, and reduce costs. Some towns have now reduced car park access heights, and made outside parking bays/permit sizes smaller.
with the weight of kit inside the top load might not be much of an issue. If you need more than 4-5 boards then it's easier to get it delivered.
Better ask LMW plastering how its working out with it?
