hi Im a new boy to this forum
As a very old diyer I have great admiration for the craft of plastering.
A few months ago i had a plasterboard wall skimmed for painting and now when i come to do the work most of the wall is very smooth but in some places plaster feels like fine sandpaper Tried sanding with 240 grit, no use.
Would putting on misscoat help
Any help would be appreciated

Mike

Being silky smooth don't really matter as long as its flat just paint it mate then you can see if there are any imperfections.

Sounds like they either didn't trowel off propely, or missed a load when putting on second coat. Mist coat might sort it out, If not to bad could use a filler. Some pre-made fillers can be to soft, so use a powdererd one.

you'd be surprised what paint can cover! mist coat it and fill any imperfections. easifill is the best on the market in my opinion.

Just a quick question
Have just sanded down a rough plaster wall.
What is the best way to get rid of plaster dust.
Have tried brushing also using tack rag but when
i rub my hand over wall still get plaster residue on hand
HELP :-\

Paint it!!

hoover it
or just mist coat it mate, having just read the thread i get the impression your a bit of a perfectionist, the mist coat will consolidate any fine dust then when its dry give it a very light rub over with fine or worn sandpaper, known as 'de-nibbing', then give it a coat of colour, let it dry properly, de-nib it again and give it a final coat of colour...
the de-nibbing will rid the wall of all the little bits that get stuck on the roller, fine hairs, bits of dust, whatever..
have fun, and make sure the missus supplies you with plenty cups of tea... ;)

DON'T hoover up plaster dust, it'll fcuk your hoover up. Even dyson's get f**k*d with plaster dust, it's soo fine it'll mess with your motor and get past the internal filters of the vacuum cleaner.

carry on..

fcuk knows what it's doing to our lungs :(

I do a few jobs for a couple of doctors and they reckon we're alright - the dust particles are too big. So-ooooo .........we're gonna die of somethin else :( :(

yeah, I've heard that any substance that doesn't stay in your lungs/body is alright, and apparently plaster doesn't stay inside us. Things that remain inside you cause problems.
