Rough Plastering quote and advice

Hi All,

Wonder if you can help. I have a living room i my new flat measuring 4.5 x 5.5.

The walls currently have lining paper on them. You can easily see below the lining paper just by looking at it where the previous owners removed the wallpaper and plaster came off of it in various places, most probably with the previous wallpaper and they used lining paper i the hope of covering it up. The walls are all plasterboard and hollow to the knock.

My question is this, can I remove the lining paper and get a plasterer just to skim the walls to get them back to a flat surface and then paint afterwards? If so what would be the cost for someone in east anglia I should be looking at for a ball park figure.

Yes you can , I'd say get all the paper off and then bang on your details on a jobs thread on here then somebody can come round and assess how much it will cost.:hola:
Prices are not discussed as a rule but... It :endesacuerdo:
Shouldn't cost the earth, it won't be Caribbean cruise money but maybe a few days at a caravan park in Dorset kind of money.

£3000 sounds about right

Wow really, what would they need to do just skim it?
There is alot of prep work involved to begin with roll and stroll if you have carpet down? Sheeting up masking up fireplaces etc sorting furniture out thats in the way etc. Then depending on the condition of the walls? They need to be sealed with either a pre grit or pva mix. I prefer to do this the day before then any beading before you even start about mixing any plaster. The prep time is so often overlooked but its a very important part of the job and can take some time which obviously needs to be paid for

Thanks Marshy, fortunately the carpet is going so I dont care what gets on it and I have a new sofa coming in 12 weeks so not bothered there either although would totally clear the room. I would strip the lining paper too. The flat living room is literally 4 walls with 2 doors and one 2m x2m window

Sounds a nice easy job for somebody i just wanted to make you aware that prep work is often overlooked by some customers who think its done by itself or by magic ? If its just the walls and not the ceiling? @theclemo estimate isnt far off the mark. Personally without seeing the job £500-£700 worst case? Suprised nobody has offered to view the job? Try posting it in "public looking for plasterers" section as some members only use this place to find work and not join in the discussions or banter? Best of luck and let us know how you get on (y)
