sand + cement internal finish

I wonder if anyone could advise me on how best to finish a sand cement internal wall ready for direct tiling e.g.

-just rubbed flat with poly float
-closed with sponge after being “rubbedâ€￾
-fine key with devil float


Any advice / informed opinion welcome.

All will do cement based tile Addys will stick to any render just make sure its flat and plumb.
