Scratch marks using sponge float?

I recently tried using the refina sponge float for the first time and when flattening 15 minutes after it came out in a lot of scrath marks / drag lines all over and had to re do the wall, wasn’t too bad as it was in my own house. What am I doing wrong here ?

Cheers surprised to get a decent straight forward answer , didn’t know plasterers were comedians / gangsters
Mate plasterers don’t use a sponge when skimming . I don’t know where this trend originated . Perhaps it’s for those who are not capable of achieving a decent finish with just a trowel. It’s bonkers

I don't use one myself but I think it came from plasterers having to cut corners on crap prices.
