Any screed knowledge here please. ie. best ratio - 3:1 or 4:1 etc. Best products readymix/sand n cement. Price rates? Any tips? I have a job lined up to lay a basement around 100m2

5;1, fibres are worth their weight in gold! wet floor with 3;1 water sbr first. ready mix saves time, was getting £4.50 (labour only) a m2 last summer on site, don't know what the rates are now? 1 screeder 1 labourer should manage 100m2 and clean up by 3pm. just get stuck in!

Ready mix is probably your best option its about £150 a cubic meter you can have a retarder put in it and reinforcing fibres put in and it will give you the better floor, other than that its sharp sand and cement 4-1 a big old diesel mixer, but consistency is the key and someone who can mix up the same mix every time is what you need . As for laying screed refina sell floor rules although they are a bit light for my taste they will do the job you will need a few in different sizes, a float , trowel and a desent level is about all you really need after that ....oh and a strong back , 9/10 you level your floor off the bottom of door linings or datum lines but allways check what the level of the floor is going to be before you start, as for prices around £8-12 per meter labour only if its your work if you are subbing expect around £5-6.

im no expert but when i mixed up the mix included bideford sand (really coarse) in with holme sand ....or is this a regional thing as holme sands fairly fine anyway ???

local sand for local poeple ;D not that im saying your inbreed of anything mate ..... i like you

i like you too church.........damn i wish you werent my uncle ;D

good stuff there lads. so church you recon i can gang subbies in at around 5-6 notes and charge out around 11ish? just found out they6 are insulating the floor with kingspan and fitting underfloor heating to some sections? any further comments on that. the heating will be water and i recon 15mm pipe used. taa

Doin one just the same in the mornin mate , it's just the same carry on ,just be carefull with the under floor heating , make sure the labourer don't go F*****g up the pipe work when they barrow in.
were mixing our own due to access restrictions using buckets to gauge the mix and a nice handfull of fibres,

Screeding is a piece off P**S mate. gauge with buckets at 4:1 ratio, i prefer to mix with a board and shovel. Wet enough to make a ball in your hand but not leave any resadue on your palm (semi dry).

Nothing much to worry about under floor heating apart being careful around it as Mr up north said, you can sub it out if you want floor screeding has allways been more lucrative than plastering , but you have to watch out for who you get in , because any problems with the screed after laying will come back to you, ive been there and got the t shirt , its up to you really

yes, small cupboard, dolls houses, dog kennels. I'm quite flexible with me screeding. :)

sorted then. I contract mostly church but work in myself on nearly all the jobs, gonna use mersey grit and cement, the price comes in that way about right with the going rate, see the client has sourced out prices online but i can only come in supply and fix around 12notes using my own mix up although i was interested in using the readymix as its something new to me, but it was puttin the price up by around 300 notes. mersey grit is superb though, much better than the grit sand you find elsewhere.

just one more thing. anyone know how many metres you get on a roll of foam edge for screed perimiter and how many notes it will stand me at. taa
