when boarding out a room i scrim all the joints together on the walls and celling but do you guys scrim the part were the wall touches the celling around the top af the wall?

i always do , i was workin with a old timer the other day he didnt do it he said it was a waste of time. i thought that with the wall moving when you walk on the floor it would stop cracking at the top . common sence really

Yeah i always scrim the ceiling joint meself, you can get 4" fibatape good stuff better than the old jute shite ::) ::), dont bother when its coved though

Always scrim them myself but know boys that dont they reckon if it cracks it will leave an even crack right round the edges then just painters mate them better than the scrim taking some plaster off wall and ceiling. never tried this myself so id advise to scrim them ;)

just wondering...... if silver scrim is better than the basic scrim, what are your views on this. cheers

best stuff out there is made by fibatape*...they invented the stuff...ie glassfibre tape instead of hessian weave....I believe its a german company, glassfibre is stronger than any of the others , very sticky, and has a unique weave to it so it hardly ever frays.....bit expensive compared to rest but worth it.tried obas tape and silver both ok obas frays and silver ok.as for ceiling wall taping ...if theres background movement dont matter what you stick to it, it'll crack, but scrim is needed in all cases..if u dont your a chimp...

if youve got somewhere warm (like a radiator or a hot van engine) then leavin the scrim on it for a little while helps with adhesion..

what wrong with your trowel? sounds like applicator are complicating things to me...something else to carry to the job...i suppose good for high ceilings

i found wid the applicator they are only anygood if the scrim is really good mine was always F*****g up was quicker with my trowel

outa intrest do u guys after skriming a celin or wall..do u smash some skim over all the scrim b4 you start spreading the wall..i have found when i dont some times i get a bit of scrim showing up after iv finished,..but i do think it does cover after paint..

i cover all scrim on ceilings or the joints where ill be laying across at least and the top third of walls ......90%of my works over tapered edge so its only to stop the scrim coming off
