Hi,

Just has some retaining walls (breeze block) in the garden k-rendered in white silicon FT, without coping. A week later and its already beginning to stain. Any loose soil that has fallen onto the top of the wall will lead to a soil stain when it rains. Also birds, badgers, and cats have decided to do their business on my pristine wall which isn't budging either. I was expecting my wall to be maintenance free for years but instead it looks more like hours! I was thinking of using Thompsons Water Seal before the problem gets any worse? Would this be a good idea or can anyone offer better advice?

Cheers

Why did you think it would be maintenance free for years when you put monocouche on it?

Where are you. Chances are one of the lads here might flight u some render sealer rather than use tommies

I'm in Frodsham, Cheshire - didn't know there was such a product as render sealer. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Frodsham ain't that far.
I can get you some sealer if you like. We use paragaurd by Parex.
We apply this to monocouche renders now as part of our system.

enewall do a micro emulsion sealer for 18 quid plus vat and delivery but it works great, used it on quite a few jobs now. I sealed up the bath stone quoin blocks and could not get any masking tape to even mildly stick on it.

Called enegaurd now our kid. And comes in bigger tub. Is like between 50 and 3000 pounds

cheers plasterjfe..how much does it cost?

Depends how much you need.

We include it as part of a system that way you pay for the exact m square you have in wall. Buying to order means you need tubs and could end up with few thirds left over but none the less.

How many metres do you have.?

Look on YouTube I have a video of a sample I done with half enegaurd and half not treated. Its running under the tap you can see how it works

Video is called;
Self cleaning or render protection

There have been 21 bags of krend used so we're probably looking at between 20 and 25 sqm in total

If they have used the product at the full correct thickness onto brick or block as in there was no base coat first. 20 bags should have covered only about 16 m square. At 15mm its 0.8 m square per bag if your lucky.

Perhaps there was a base coat ?

Anyway you need only 1tub of either.

To be honest at that quants you would be as well getting it yourself direct. If you had hundreds of metres then we could save you money and it would be worth it for us too but not for a single container etc...in fact for such a small area I would chance the Tommie's that must be like 20 quid and available anywhere ?

strange video that lad. its just you messing about in the bathroom sink. :RpS_unsure:

all the larger enewall scratch render samples have half it painted with eneguard when they send them out now.

Apparently Thompsons water seal isn't the best. I can't get hold of enewall/eneguard as I'd have to arrange a courier for 1 tub worth £12 - doesn't seem worth it. Parex aren't interested as they haven't got back to me. Any other suggestions?

everbuild make a decent solvent free sealer. they'll sell it on ebay id imagine or get it direct.
