Some time ago a chancer out bid on a job anyway there was a little bit of rendering to do around a bay . Passed there this morning and the render is shite and cracked to feck so I can only think what the inside looks like. I mean to say who would use hardwall after a dpc. And he did not use beads on the outside rendering .

Not using beads externally isn't the end of the world though, how do you think they did it when warrior was a boy? Or didn't they render mud huts?

what the job involved was rendering a victorian style brickwork of a bay and each side of the wall. The mortor joints needed re pointing before you even started rendering also the bricks were in poor condition. Yes you do not need to bead up to form angles
or form a bellcast bead its just quicker with beads thats all. What pissed me off I had been saving 5 bags lime render for this job all winter. If you pay peanuts then you pay twice for one job,

The old free hand finish! the Irish replied was he a pole? then someone replied was he Irish lol that's why I love this forum!!!!

mortor beds in very poor state needed pointing, a lot of HGV's passing you could feel the house shake a little. Just would not have felt happy slapping render over poor brickwork that's all.

Just scrape 'em out H:RpS_thumbup:

Then just make sure you push plenty gear into the joints when you scratch it on............that's what I would have done mate:-)

Dont get it mate just clean the joints out and brush them clean or use a air hose if you want to be fastidious and do the scratch in 2 hits as you go the empty joints are your key. Why do i keep getting an auto save pop up in the bottom right hand corner?

Never no point and whoes gonna pay for that, some of the worst advice ive heard on this forum

Sorry if that came across a bit harsh, no point in repointing if you are rendering, thats my opinion

It's hard to explain with out seeing a job what I am trying to say. The brickwork supporting the bay is shot or I should say the morter beds are, So if I had have just forced the render into the morter beds I would be hoping this would hold the bricks in place.
Maybe it would maybe not for the sake of an hour of re pointing I would have had peace mind that it was done right.
My mrs is always telling me I speak useless words LOL
