I used this stuff for the first time today

I followed the instructions 250ml per 25kg cement and spent 3 hours trying to get a decent barrow load out of the mixer,It was just going like what I can only describe as pastry, really thick heavy sticky gear that you could add loads of water to and made no difference and when tipped into the barrow went off solid in about 30 minutes.

I phone the sika helpline and they asked me what I was using to mix the gear in so I told them a belle cement mixer ... ahhh thats the problem the guy said we dont recommend you mix render in a cement mixer using our additives you need to mix it by wisk in a gorilla bucket.

What a useless product and what a bunch of cocks that man the technical line

sounds like you got frostproofer/rapid hardner in a waterproofer tub..
as for the guy on the phone... id have taken his name, noted the time of the conversation, where he was based and sent a nice letter complimenting sika on there product range with a little paragraph at the end detailing the problems you had and the convo you had with the tit on the helpdesk..
and the fact that youre a senior member of a nationwide plastering forum with lots of plastering contacts etc etc..
just have to hope they send you cash and not a palletload of waterproofer ;D

It was well strange as you added water the water was staying seperate from the render for ages and when it did mix in you could see loads of almost veins of water through the mix.

I am taking it back to the build centre tomorrow to give them grief as they have stopped selling freeflow which used to be lovely and are only stocking this cra.p.

you did drop the waterproofer in with the guage water first didnt you rich?
does sound weird though.. did it smell like citrus like normal waterproofer or was it some 'environmentally friendly' crap?

kenwood ones are ideal for this.

Thats what I use mate haha.

It says on the tub add to dry mix or to the water so I did what I always do which is chuck in a bucket of water, add sika s**t.e then a bucket of sand and leave for 10 seconds or so to get it mixed properly.

It really stressed me out as I am on day rate and the client was stood watching me mix for ages, then rant, then throw 3 barrows of compo in the skip

i tried getting one coat at 20mm with no water proofer or feb borrowed handson mortar mix on a 1.5sqm patch i looked like a right coont gear stook to straight edge and all ended up on the floor ......it happens sometimes ........thank fook i was on me tod

if that was me no seggsy it'd been on the floor and remixed about ten times

you havent come across dp beds have you? ;D

Oh great I'm starting a render for a new client tomorrow and have bought some sika on recommendation from a friend will let you know how I get on.

I think it was probably the wrong product in the wrong tub but I did make a few phone calls last night and everybody I spoke to said its awful stuff to use.

good luck andy!

sika is crap they also recommend you dont skim it with multi use limelight finish instead

I didn't read the original post properly as the stuff I've got is the sika concentrated waterproofer and plasticiser, used it today for the first time. What a load of k-rap it didn't plasticise at all. The muck was completely unusable, good job I took some of my normal waterproofer along as well. I will phone sika tomorrow to tell them what I think of their product and take the rest back to get my money back.

or mmix it using a silver pudding fork in a lead crystal vase using water collected at midnight on the full moon while wearing the skin of you neighbours wife.......

Thanks Pug I decided to give it another go tomorrow following your advice, almost got everything ready, now where did I put that pudding fork!!!

I use Sika waterproofer all the time with no probs used to use it in liquid form now use the powder as it seems to work out cheaper weather it waterproofs or not is a different matter.

Sika comes in different flavours which have different properties and setting times I believe, I think sika 3 sets in a few minutes and can be used as a 'plug' in wet conditions. It's bloody expensive as I remember!
