i re skimed a room a few weeks ago then this weeek iv papered over it all with super fresco paste the wall paper. looked good. then to day have a large bubble on one wall. so i took paper off to find all the new skim on that wall had came away! just with a quick scrape it all came off! background was a bit empty sounding and was an old house, but we PVA x2 and skimed up, every other wall seems ok?? had 2 re skim and paper again another day!

Could have been what was on the wall before that caused the problem. If its been papered before the paste can re-activate it should always be washed down with sugar soap twice before to stop it happening.

Its the super fresco mate ya wanna get intouch with mr fresco maybe there is a problem with paper drying too quick and shrinking or maybe the paste was the wrong mix and was setting too quick cant think what else it could be ;)

I was working with a spread 2 weeks ago on a reskim and he insisted on pva ing all the walls first thing in the morning to get it over with. I advised him to skim the walls whist the pva was still tacky and he said it dont matter! :o :o :o :o
He had skimmed the ceiling the previous week and there was 2 big cracks running all over the show and it was obvious that the finish had not taken to the background properly. ::)
He still insisted that it dont matter if the pva is tacky or not . ::)
This guy has been a plasterer for over 20 years. He needs to read what it says on the back of the pva tub.

people like that are just stuck in their ways mate. i had a bit arguement with the bloke i work with about using pva externally. had to actually get the tub and show him. he said no the other tubs different. so i got that one and it said the same. he normally uses sbr but didnt have any and couldnt be arsed to get any, so he tried to convince me it was only to kill the suction, not for a key.

Would you not recommend using good quality pva as a key flynny? I have been using this method for many years and had no problems at all.

not for a key externally even though there is external PVA, mechanical all the time for me externally.

hold up people iv allways used PVA as soon as i can give it a few coats and if i dont skim that wall that day i will just get onit the next day with out new PVA? i use pva like bonding agent, use it to seal the walls and get on it when its dry and if i need to when tacky? on this job the pva was still wet as it was hanging around for a bit. any yes the walls had been Papered before but nearly all my over skimed are over old wallpapered walls and i never wash down with sugger and have never had problems, mind you i have had a few extra cracks l8ly!
