Skim over internal render??

Hi All,

Totally new here so please bare with me!
My bathroom walls are currently tiled. There appears to be a keyed render behind this against the external walls (the bathroom is on an extension).
I'll be removing the tiles and am hoping to skim over the render.
Is it possible to skim over the render?
If so, will I need to use a bonding agent?
Can I just use a multifinish?

Depends how dry it is.
Plenty of pva 5 parts water 1 part pva.
Could use a tight coat of bondingcoat.
Then 2 coats of finish. ( or just1 on tiled areas)

Might get away without bonding coat but it’s a risk

I dot and dab with moisture resistant board in bathrooms to get a really easy to tile to background

The render is at least 2 years old and is very dry.
Would thistle bonding coat do the job before the multi?
Can I dot and dab cement board onto render for the tiles areas?

Yes thistle bonding coat.
If you want to pay a fortune for cement boards go ahead mate.
But you’ll have to put them everywhere or you will get a step in the wall

Is bathroom going to be fully tiled, or part tiled and what type of tile?

Yeah the weight of the tiles comes in to it

It will be part tiled (only around wet areas).
The tiles are likely to be ceramic 20cm x 10cm x0.8cm.
I'm thinking to use 'norcros prime bond' straight over the render for the tiled areas - then to tile over that.
And to use 'thistle bonding coat' followed by 2 layers of multifinish everywhere else.
How does that sound?
