Skimming advice

Now do i do 2nd coat 1st or 1st coat 2nd im just not that sure of the skimming process.
Also most jobs i finish, as customer are just handing over the cash they always say they never wanted broken leather finish on ceiling.
What does this mean?
It must be a complement rite?

Tidy like did you lay on with a brush.

No topmark I didn't lay on with a brush,
I only lay on with a brush when external skimming it covers the bricks better that way.
Gets the multi into all the nooks & crannys.
