Been to price a job up, which I'm starting Thurs.

The guy has had the whole house roughed out by some polish dudes...the mix used...1 : sand, 1: cement, 1: lime, 2: POLYSTYRENE BALLS!

I think I'll need to pva the walls to stabilize the tiny balls that are loose, but I can't see it being nice to skim.

I can't take any pictures until I get back on the job.

Never seen anything like that has anyone else?

Hmmm the owner is supplying all the gear....there is no way he'll get blue grit. I could mix sand in the pva...

I've used vermiculite in S&C for insulation once (for a builder in his boiler house - he wanted to try it).
Old college lecturer used to tell us that polystyrene was made from 98% dry stagnent air (never forgot that lol). Not heard of it being used in render though..

But you'll be the one he's chasing if it all falls off. Insist on it, water it down a little and it goes a long way.

i wouldnt care weather hes happy paying for blue grit or not YOUR the professional and YOU know more than him about the job YOUR doin so insist that he listens to YOU or you walk simples.
if it all goes wrong he wnt care how much you say i wanted x and i wanted y all he will care about is that the work is fooked and he wants you to replace it

there is a cement based version i used some in germany and i also had some from pft north (les) kzml its lovely to a apply and rub up, i think you'll be fine witha bit of pva

I've seen this before in sarf landan, used as a cheap 'insulated' render. Can't complain about Polish techniques, gonna get me cock sucked by one when I've decided I've drank enough red wine. Hope this helps

How much wine will he have to drink?

An Irish man and a Polish Man in a bar, its going to be a lot of wine before the whine...if you get it I am sure you will(pun) that is he he

often used to use perlite which is basically small polysterene balls in render base coats going over riblath or eml made it nice and light and fluffy great in some circumstances.

always have an open mind.

Fair do's.

I'm sure it will be fine I'm just worried about the polystyrene that isnt actually bedded in, and is sitting on the surface....

I'll know what to do after I trowel up the first set anyway. If it turns out crap I'll just do a rolling set on the next hit and go over it.
