Social housing

Wondering if anyone on here has worked on social housing. I've been asked to go over into this type of work. I'm self employed at the moment and just wondering it's worth doing for a bit to get regular income. I get work doing self employed but do get dry spells so was thinking of trying that when work is slow. Is it worth it or not ???

I'd rather throw my tools in the Manchester ship canal tbh than do that shite

I done it for about a week not long after I went on my own, don’t do it m8 you will really see how lazy and disgustingly scummy some people really are

in no particular order,
1. fleas , G** porn magazines, electrician refused to work in this house,
2. customer walking about wearing a t shirt saying , stop looking at my tits, i would rather face a pack of skin heads then tackle her , rough as fcuk,
3. one flat was so hot ,heating on full blast, walked off job,
4. one job asked if i wanted a bacon sarny, refused , kitchen was disgusting,
5. and so on and so on,

in all seriousness , i would rather sit at home all day every day with no work on , then do social housing work, it is the pits.

Rubbing shoulders with the hoi polloi, no thank you.
Social housing

Probably very steady work every advert I see for it though they want you to be bob the builder and pay 15 pound an hour

I actually had an interview with clarion for 'multi trade' work.. the question that stuck in my mind was 'can you work to our standards?, as in, if you think the job requires more than we've specified, would you push back?'
Meaning.... we are gonna send you 2 hours away into some birds flat, thats been waiting 2 years to get a replacement lath and plaster ceiling thats just about to drop on her head, with a small tub of leightweight filler, we want you to ignore the screaming, patch up the cracks and dont forget the satisfaction note or you dont get paid...

Just had a look at an email this is for a painter/decorator 30k a year

Undertaking all aspects of decorating with duties to include elements of carpentry, plastering, tiling and roofing as required, assisting with making good and repairs in a variety of commercial properties

lol is that enough to put anyone off?
While you’re here mate this ceiling needs plastering before you get the roller out then for the rest of the week just pop the roof off in between fitting those door linings and fitting the kitchen

bout right up here too.. all agencies trying to middle man it, and now they've come up with this riduclulous method of payment where they advertise something like 18-20hr which makes you think 'couple of hundred a day, s**t but i could live on it', but what they dont tell you is the payment system is run by an 'umbrella company' and basically, they make you pay their employers national insurance contributions and take a cut for themselves off the top line, which drops you down to 15hr, then you got your own ni, tax, another little bung for the agency and you left with 120 a day.. piss take...
Its ll been a complete bag of shite since cameron got in in 2010. Cap on council spending caused most councils to 'defer' their ongoing refurb contracts (couldnt legally just cancel em) so upshit is, theres no money in it all save for the odd disbaled wetroom, which still isnt exactly life changing (bout 1500 quid in em labour only up my way). These are usually run by companies that dont know their arse from their arse from their elbow, with a rams document 9 pages long you have to sign. They send you out armed with a bag of hardwall and a document that says 'repairs to the walls must be cement based undercoat plaster', then some silly t**t who looks like he works in a shell garage with an nvq in health and safety comes out and snags your work off.... 'why didnt you use the dry lining box we gave you for the shower isolator switch in the ceiling?'.. ffs...
I did one wetroom for that company and thought 'f**k this'
Whats probably worse is im now doing top end bathrooms for a local company (good lads to be fair, just trying to make it work), gotta wear every hat, do em on my own from rip out to completion and im on 220 a day cis
They making about 80 a day off me and 4 other lads but theyve got a huge unit/stores/showroom, surveyor, h+s doing the rams, salesman, overall manager, a paid app (fonn) logistics and materials manager, logistics to deliver the gear to site, skips... they aint making a lot at all.. all the work is round peterborough in the 'money belt' not in peterborough cos its a shithole and no one can afford a 20 grand bathroom but even the disposable income boomers are feeling the pinch these days.. its just the state of the country at the minute I think...
That said, go on your own/stay on your own, and youre competing with low prices everywhere and still have the headache of sourcing, fronting, actually getting paid, unforseen s**t etc etc...
or go work for clarion/mears whatever or an agency, earn labourers money but its not like youre gonna be held to account for s**t work by the company, only the tennants and at least you get to shag the inevitable cougar or young slapper every once in a while...
