A few weeks or months ago there was a thread that showed socket covers you could use once you took off switches or socket f.ronts, I think they screwed into the back boxes..and then you could skim straight over them....wondered if anyone had a link to where I can buy them as cant find the thread. Cheers

Agreed, what a crock of s**t that is. Another useless plastering invention.
So you skim tight to that box and then what? When you have to take it off the plaster cracks all round the socket!
I was just about to order some and see your comment..have you used any?
Just read on electricians forum they leave them in till plaster drys ?

Just go ur local timber yard and get some ply cut to the size of double and single sockets or am I missing sumat here ??

So if your doing a 1 or 2 day job you have to go back when it's dry :ROFLMAO:
As soon as you pull at that thing it'll pull bits of plaster away that will need filling again.

I clean the boxes along with edges etc after last trowel ,job done . Wires are taped and tucked in and push bit of bag or whatever's lying about to stop shoite going in the conduit ,works just fine quick n easy. Just like my nobsock:estudioso:

If the sockets are connected though ?

True that's what they were saying on electric forum...some were saying they put them on for the plasterer before they get there..was dying to comment and try get the electricians number ...suppose some are okay

Because one corner has been cut when you loosen the screws it all comes away fine unless your an impatient sort of chap.

It was the blank-it ones I wanted......if you pull it out when the gears picked up but not dry it shouldnt pull any of the rest of the plaster off I wouldnt think.....wouldnt wait till dry.

I had a bundle of these when i went to a show in september and used them and were ok but you can just use gaffa tape or similar.

Yeah your right thinking about it...gaffa tape would probably do same job.....ordered a few earlier so will soon see if they worth it....

The cardboard blank it ones are only for if there are no fronts connected on.
just the back box.
handy if some one has went a bit mad and boxes have been sunk in to deep,as you can pull the card box out a bit to the level of the surounding plaster(y).....If you know what i mean:loco:

They are decent you only have to run a small tool around them after 2nd trowel to break the bond.
Be ideal for spraying your domestics @plasterman.
Also good if spark has sunk boxes in too far on new build.

So masking tape is dumb, but gaffa tape is ok lol.

I have always unscrewed sockets/switches wrapped masking tape around it job done.

Sorry mate the dumb rating was accidental....using a tablet and you catch the ratings as you're scrolling through with it being touch screen....removed it now.

We use rock wool but only when the sparky has tucked his wires in otherwise hard wall

The yoozy boxes are for live sockets, the spark normally puts them on with long screws, stops roman candle effect! I've used them on housing association work etc when on a tenanted property, always handy having a couple spare though, just cut them at the bottom so they wrap over, let sparks remove them if possible, good to work too.
