Has anybody used sound coat before? Can u just go over block with it or can it go on top of board and old floating etc?

same as above mate i quite like useing it just ruff it on then dot and dab ontop, never tried it ontop of board or exsisting float

soundcoat was brought out to even the walls acoustic performance out as they reckon the sound leaked through the mortar joints it beening not as dense as the blocks

iv used it on newbuilds on the partywalls prior to dot and dab etc love the stuf just slap it on ya can make some canny coin never put it on board though think it be ok over old floating though ,

the floating has already done the job

Yeh that rite dannymac iv boarded and skimmed my own house and now iv moved in can hear next doors fukin telly all nite, and gibbo if the floatings aready done the job then why put it under board?

Maybe if a party wall is already boarded and extra acoustic protection is needed.

Don't be silly, this is used as a parge coat to fill all voids left by rough subby brickies. ...as Mr Gibbo states( freind), sand cement just as good ( as Spunkster says)

Althoug the BG gear is recognised in robust construction details.

Erm, I was playing devils advocate, hence beginning with maybe.

I have never used the stuff before. Your "freind" is probably correct for all I know.

because the job is spec for boards not float and set if you can hear next doors telly turn yours up louder

I used to have a problem with a neighbour playing the same ub40 album every sunday at full blast. Can't stand the later UB stuff, can just about tolerate present arms and the early dubbier stuff.

not to worry i thought, so I stuck me speakers facing his wall, turned the bass right up and gave him a taste of all my old jungle tunes. Didn't hear a dickie bird after that

Only on weekends CJK:RpS_thumbsup: never used the stuff before so just wanted find out abit more about jeeeeeez

Sorry to be an arse but your question dont make sense. its either floated or drylined if its floated you dont need soundcoat if it drylibed then a coat of soundcoat about 5mm thick then dot dab and skim it wont dissolve all the noise but it does help however if you have a problem and the walks are finished i would recomend dab some soundbloc boards over the finished walls on tight dabs and skim

Yeh wel I thought as much and that's the way I'm guna go in the bedrooms but the front room has some old run coving which I wanted to keep so boarded up to it, so was thinking tight coat of sound coat then skim but didn't know wot it was all about but guna av dig the axe out I fink and put ma mad face on:mad:

a tight skim of soundblock wont do anything because the noise will still transfer through the wall above your ceiling

You could glue egg boxes to the wall, I hear that helps.

I turned a job down last week the lady was complaining of noise from the neighbour and the only way I could think would be too soundproof every wall on the side of her house, under the stairs bathroom kitchen it would have been a nightmare, very expensive and I'd be gutted if it didn't work

How were you going to go about it?

I was thinking maybe dotting polystyrene insulation boards, skimming and re-skirting. Could just slice a bit of the insulation off the back of the board, no need to take off the old skirts.

I think if this was done in both houses it might work to some degree.

I didn't look at it but probably just dab sound check, the main wall was the staircase so no room for stud

we use to get 3 quid a metre for parge coating, using sound coat, 7 or 8 years ago, them were the days.
