hi guys ,been asked to sound proof two ceilings 11ft x 13ft , the customer is on the ground floor and the flat above is only separated by floor joist and 1 layer of plasterboard.they have asked me to try and overboard 1st with soundbloc to see if it works, if that doesnt work they then want me to price to fix a sound proof suspended ceiling, they are a couple in there 60s and are desparate, any ideas on both solutions, appreciate any input as i know they are bringing out new ideas all the time, cheers.

For a good job, you want to insulate between joists, use resilient bar and soundblock boards (2 layers) . The proper specification would involve running sound deadening tape along the top of the floor joists too, but you've no chance of doing that.

did one in a flat sbove a betting office 275mm of rockwool in between the joist then soundbloc layed over floor boards then sponge backed caberdeck screwed down did the job couldent hear nothing from betting office

Again i do alot of soundproofing work it all depends on the level of noise coming from above but I always where possible put in a suspended ceiling if there is enough height and the walls allow for it. Once you have your timbers up then 100mm rockwool followed by resillient bars and the two layers of board one being an 18mm planc and the other 15mm with accoustic sealant between all joints this si just a standard fit again depending on the level of noise you may need other products such as m20ad panels.

Ive got a flat to do and im gonna put an mf ceiling up, 100mm insulation, 15mm soundblock and acoustic sealant around all the edges get it tested and another skin if need be. Just reading up on it at the mo and it also needs chicken wire on all the ceilings coz they are lath and plaster.

Was on a job where they layed rubber matting on the floor above and they had a surveyor/architect bloke to check the joists first because the mats weighed a fkin ton!

spec for a house converted to 2 flats, good few years ago..

ceilings downstairs -
insulate between joists, 19mm plasterboard followed by 12.5mm soundblock
upstairs floor -
50mm low density fibreboard (green stuff they use for flooring underlay about 8mm thick, this was 50mm)
19mm plasterboard on top
then 22mm chipboard...

problem comes when you come to the top of the stairs...
how d'ja reckon we got round that one? last tread now being 325mm when it needs to be 225mm...
