Had to artex a job a while back customer had another plasterer in to board & skim lounge ceiling 20m2
she painted it with vinyl silk.
what a mess he made, scrim showing through loads of areas in need of filling out,
straight jointed boards along joist cracking out where she said original cracks were
nail pops etc..
She said just artex it she didn't want it skimmed again.
She said he was using a window cleaners squeegy on a pole!
I take it she meant when he was flattening off!

She said I thought he'd be good as he had a sign written van & buisness cards,
ha wot a joke!
He'll keep me in work then.

Think i saw something on the net before like you say.
But never used one myself.
From what she said I thought he'd just made it up himself
the ceilng was well rough though.

you can get a tool like that for ceilings mate

Refina do a range of tools to use like that, God knows how anyone could do a decent or even half decent job using them ???

I know what your saying bod,
silk does highlight any imperfections,
but this was s h i t.
You'd have needed best part of a bag of easifill to sort it out
& a few hrs sanding & painting.
Every m2 had something wrong with it,
I did recommend skim it again but she said no just artex it.

brewers still do it and the tools as well, i had a bit of laced bark to do a couple of weeks ago, its coming back into fashion!

Patched & skimmed 3 water damaged ceilings the other week on a job
over a medusa pattern with comb Borders.
Customer said he was thinking of leaving it flat.
So i finished the job & he had 3 flat ceilngs ready for painting then he changed his mind & said he wants the same pattern back on, if I knew that to start with I'd not have bothered so much on the finishing.
But then on other jobs i've skimmed ceilings good enough for artexing over, then customer changes their mind after i've done the job & say we won't have artex back on we'll just have it painted now.
Some people love it, some people hate it, bit like marmite really.
Or marmtex!
