Aye am goin to go in a run the mora. Never heard of anybody usin the cementone but heard of the blue grit, bond it etc. That many products these days its hard to keep up.

I got them from my local crown decorators centre - they will need to order for you. I use sealer more as I tend to overboard over distemper.

Think theres a crown near by me. Goin to pop in town tomorrow. Went into see my neighbour this mornin. Absolutely no way of talkin them round. So its gettin stabilexed, Pvad and skimmed. Printed out a quote explainin the downsides and got him to sign it.

Iv'e used the cemetone stuff over painted walls, good stuff, dried pretty quick too, wot are you goin over?

Its a ceilin m8, quite chalky. Distemper. Explained to the customer about overboardin bla bla bla, but no way of them overboardin. Tried explainin that it would be the right thing to do. No joy. Got the customer to wash it down with sugar soap and water and sign a quote sayin ive explained any downsides to them.

Thats best thing to do mate, the customer always thinks theyre right! Id defo go wth the pva + stabilex option be on the safe side! They stock it in b+q usually, same aisle as the boards, beads etc.

Cant get stabilex anywhere. Phoned up my nearest crown stores and was told they dnt do it. Goin to have a look in b and q maself. If I cant get stabilex is there any other stabilisers you could recommend?

Any joy at b+q mate? Iv'e only ever bought it from there or travis perkins. Only other stuff iv used is blue grit or the thistle bond it but thats well expensive!

How about this one, best check with experts on forum if this is ok onto distemper ?

Stabilex

Aye somebody mentioned this earlier m8. Not sure about onto distemper myself either. Heard its decent stuff but it was over paint.

No joy m8. Guy in b and q didny have a clue lol. Had a look around maself and asked another few lads. Can blue grit or bond it be used over distemper? Never done it maself a would usually overboard but this couple aint havin none if it.

If theyre anythin like the divs in my b+q im not suprised, half of em arent clever enough string a sentence together! Did u say the customer washing it down, shud b ok wth pva + blue grit or bond it. Iv only started using blue grit last couple of years, before that everythin jus got pva'd, distemper, painted walls, the lot, never had a problem.

Aye their washin it down with sugar soap. Told them to give it a good wash down if they dnt want it overboarded. Im the same m8 a usually Pva most stuff. Seem to be comin across alot of customers who are a pain in the **** lol. If they had let me get in an overboard it it would be skimmed and dryin out for paintin. If I cant get stabilex which is lookin unlikely I might just get some thistle bond it or blue grit. Would you pva over the blue grit when the blue grit dried. A know its to form a key but does it control the suction?

If they give it a good enough clean it should be good enough to pva it, let that dry then blue grit it jus to be sure. The blue grit does control the suction but with u sayin its dry it mite not control it aswell as usually does, i prefer the bond it but its too expensive! I know wot u mean about customers just lately, some are right k***s!

sound m8 cheers for the advice. If you ever come across anywhere sellin stabilex let us know. Be handy to have a tub sittin around.

Kris, I think your overthinking this mate. Your started quite a few threads now about primers and your trying all sorts of different styles but your wasting your time. I stay ten minutes from you so it's safe to say we quote on the same types of houses. I only use pva and once in a blue moon bond it and I've never had any problems. Stick to the basics bud.

A know m8 am gettin curious about alot if diffrent grits etc. Am like you only ever pva. This is 1st time ive came across a job with distemper and the customers are 110% no want overboardin. Its probs fae the threads on here that has made me think am the only **** still usin pva. Lol

Explain to them the extent you've gone to, to get this stabilex shite (pva relabelled bollox) and tell them to source the gear them selfs if they're so god damn adamant on having it.
