hi guys this is my 1st post so here goes ive been plastering for a few years now but never done stairways . so just wanna know wots the best way to get to the high spots above the stairs . is it batons in between 2 ladders or do you just use ladders . i work on my own so really need to know the simplest method

i use a combination ladder on the stairs, hop up on the landing and a plank between the 2, health and safety be fecked!

thats it in a nutshell, and if you got a bulkhead (which is what i think youre getting at) yes, you can wedge a bit of timber inbetween the walls to lay your ladder or, but do it before you skim the walls supporting the timber, or just have the ladder leaning on a section you can reach, do the top, step down and remove the ladder and do the bottom, repeat as you trowel up and youll take any ladder marks out as you go..
you can buy these offset ladders but be careful because the majority arent tall enough when you set em up as offset steps...

i use a multimpurpose ladder like the one in the pic, have it set so its shaped like an L
on end of it a few steps down the stairs, the other goin across the ladding with a milk crate raising it up a bit, works perfect for me tho i am 6ft4 and its just right without over reaching much atall, for the vertically challenged i wouldnt recommend this method, especially if the stairwell is really really high
