Starting back on course tomorrow - anyone else?

I'm back at college tomorrow for orientation then plastering on Monday.

Anyone else back or anyone just starting a new course?
 
I'm going back on the 10th, done my level 1 and half level 2 diploma! but now they have changed it to city & guilds so im going in to start level 2 again. the standard of work in the college looks a lot better don't know if that's down to the C&G ? still focusing half the course on fibrous though never understood that, good luck
 
Well they do a bit of fibrous on this course as well and apparently there is good money in coving if you can get the work so it is worth doing though focusing half the course on it is quite intensive.

I just got my C and G dip 2 book through the post. Bloody expensive book at £30!
 
Found out today they dropped the fibrous, not a big miss for me at this stage.

Big focus on external rendering, damp as well as the usual skim and prep to skim. We have been told to get learning about roofing/brickwork/general building principles and other construction related areas. That we should be working on becoming well versed in all areas and experts in some on our own time as well as learning in college. Got to get all health and safety and written exam work finished and completed successfully by Christmas leaving the rest of the year to focus on whatever skills we are deficient in personally, very intense which is just great.
 
I'd love to hear about your experience with both but especially the Venetian.

That one is on my wishlist for when I can afford it. I'd do it just for the fun of it.

Patching boards and moved on to patching for a drywall finish.

A lot of fun actually. Frustrating as hell, hard work when there is ceiling work to be done. Got a lot of pleasure out of improving the more I work with the boards. Also chalk lines are absolutely the best tool I've ever come across in my life.
 
Yeah well extended level 2 as I had not completed a level 1. But that would have been a waste of time as I am learning this stuff quicker than most students. I'm already starting to pass the people who have been there a year, but they are still kids, need a of help with functional skills etc and still want to muck around. I'm either in there plastering, at home plastering or finding someone else to work with. I probably put 50 hours a week into plastering either reading or doing.

The laser tool wouldn't do any good though as I freehand cut everything. I need the line on the board either pencil or chalk, the chalk line obviously being much more accurate.
 
So I'm back on the walls looking at the finish work again.

There is a new trainer. He is awesome does a great wall, been a plasterer for 20+ years. The main fella is also excellent and does a great wall again been a plasterer for decades.

Both have different methods.

Very confusing lol :/

What are you using a chalk line for??
 
Hi Guys,

I am 3 weeks into my C & G entry level plastering course. Its the first part of a 'carousel' course and we do 8 week sections on various trades from plastering to carpentry through the year. I think this is a good idea as you get to try out each trade before choosing the diploma in one of them.

Really enjoying Plastering so far and I am looking to continue onto the diploma level 1.

I'm getting stuck into my level 2 p/t on a career change so trying to get as much experience as possible whilst still feeding the family. How are you all finding it? Get some good info on here but there are a few arses that try putting you down sometimes . Good luck to you all

Tuttle I reckon you'll be thankful for it. I've been building stud walls recently, the carpentry will serve you well. I wish I could get on a bricklaying course on a night time alas it will not be happening (to few people applied). But they are all skills you'll need to know about. The more the better I am finding. In my private time I split my time between learning plastering and other than that studying general principles of construction/roofing/bricks/joinery. Your course sounds great.

Good weeks and bad weeks mate no doubt like you. Trying to cut it on Working Tax Credits, half housing benefit and whatever bits of money I can earn elsewhere is not easy. I've had the odd day when I wonder if its worth it, but only the odd day. Usually when I've fethed something up!
