Have many of you guys started on their own over the past year? If so how's it going? Plenty of work or struggling?

question is, how have you guys gone about advertising, been on the phone to a few places this morning, yell.com want £399 for the cheapest ad on their site.
im listed on a few other sites (free ones) and have been for the last 6 months or so, but nothing. my free yell.com listing has thrown up 3 phonecalls in the past year.
without dishing out your secrets, can someone give me a heads up on what works. word of mouth is a tricky thing to start! :-[

Got my first job coming up where I'm going to have to sub out a portion of it to enable it to be finished in a reasonable time frame.
Just looking in to registering to make payments through CIS. It seems like the only way to take things forward, so it's gotta be done but monthly returns with penalty charges for missed payments ain't turning me on too much.
Has anyone had any experience of dealing with CIS?

Yeah it s a pain in the arse just been fined £100 for late monthly return even though it was nil,i ve put an appeal in so i havn t paid the fine yet.
Yeh make sure you set a reminder to remind you to do it.It wasn t the fact it was late apparently i posted two together when i spoke to them so they told me to appeal so i will get a human being looking at it not a computer that dishes these fines out.RMK said:Yeah. Heard it's a hundred squids everytime you miss a return.
Accountant said it can be completed online in 4 quick stages, so all I'd have to do is set myself a reminder each month.
Peace of piddle surely!
