If its 'I' shaped as you say, whack a few wooden noggins into the I section nice and tight and then just screw into them for the sides, and a liberal amount of dri-wall adhesive for the underneath chief

I THOUGHT THAT ABOUT THE SIDES MATE WASENT SURE ABOUT THE BOTTOM BIT, THANKS FOR THAT BUD.

Nog it out then fix a slate batten or 2x1 along the length then you wont have to fix adhesive to the steel, board round it..

i stick with gripfill. gotta be aware tho, theres rules and regs about rsj's but i don't know what they are :-[

Nog the steel out then measure the depth, width , depth score your plaster board one side and just wrap it round the steel no need to worry about fixing the soffit once its beaded it aint going nowhere.
