Are they worth the effort of maintenance and how should I break them in just for skimming? Already got the st steel marshals and refinas. Bloke who I used to work with had a steel and it was like a razor!

Er yeah, in a fashion. Chinnuts comes from a joke at work.
We have a famous tea bagging spread on here @beddy I can't name him but watch out chin nuts. Back to trowels ,I just use the Marshall stainless and have done for years

Basically the joke goes "what do you call nuts on your chest" they say chestnuts "what do you call nuts on a wall" they say wall nuts "what do you call nuts on your chin" they usually say chinnuts, lol to that you say "no, gob full of c0ck!

Tyzack 14'' s.s for skimming.. tyzack for 13'' for rendering / backing coats

Rendering will break your trowel in the quickest ... the one for rendering I have I brought back from oz ... like a razor after pushin on all that mud lol

Ok CHINNUTS that's enough of the smut, we don't like that sort of talk on here.

Yeah carbon steel trowels are worth the "effort", not that they take a lot.

Tyzack & Marshalltown steel trowels i use them for most of my rendering then wash and spray with WD40 and put away ,i could cut your head -off with one swing they are that sharp :-)

I used to use tyzack Ss 13x4 but the rivets went on it, so I'm now back on marshals perma shape Ss. Can't break it in with render as we only skim.

a tyzack with its rivits popping???:RpS_confused:................how unusual:RpS_sneaky:

You wanna try a refina s*p*r*lex mate, youll knock a good 30 mins off your set times as youll be able to trowel the whole set without a drop of water, been plastering 25yrs and i can honestly say its the best trowel iv ever bought, only negative the handels are horrible but managed to swap it with bass wood marshalltown.

Also the fact that the warp but been tod that refina will replace any unfit for use so that's positive

Ive been using an 18" s*p*r*lex for just over a year its still straight as an arrow, i cant imagine its going to last as long as the m/towns. But that said id willing buy one every couple of months if i had to,

Glad its lasted, mine didn't last long, very expensive to buy six a year though , the are a good tool but need more testing and improving

I only use Permashape Steel trowels, in my experience they definitelt get a better finish that the SS, they do get very sharp but I find that the SS make the surface of skimming slightly greasy whereas the Steel seem to make the surface smoother with a harder like finish.
