I'm sure this topic has been touched many times, but anyway I've got some, never used them yet, only in my front room. Doesn't feel too safe.I'm sure it's just a matter of getting used to them. How long does it usually take to use them with confidence? Probably saves alot of time.

bobby just get use to walkin on em first ie round the garden an stuff then i scrimmed ceilings of em first before i try to skim after you have done this a few times your confidence will grow and before youknow it you will be running on em lol il ove em had enm for years some dont like em an they dont suit everybody but if you can get use to them they are a great leg saver

thanks for not just saying plastering ??? ;D.......its good advice from madmonk mate youve just got to use them really, i was wondering if you were doing domestic work it wouldve made it twice as hard

I got use to them so anyone can ,my balance is not the best ,just dont rush around ,although i dont feel 100% confident or comfortable on them im sure they are the worst thing that has ever come into the plastering trade .

i'd carry on using a hop up tbh i doubt stilts can really make it any faster on domestic work

the best thing about stilts is they alter the plastering method a bit. ie, you can trowel up with great big unbroken bands from wall to wall without having to pick em up half way with steps etc. this usually gives you better results tbo. dust sheets are a no no though unless you wanna imitate superman :)

have been useing stilts twenty years now if your balance is bad dont bother u will allways be afraid on them i allways say to guys starting out use a narrow hallway to learn so u have someware to fall against then move on from there then its another big step to useing tools

Gets easier with time mate. If you're doin domestic work you'll have bought the smaller set 15-23 inch? They really are easy to walk on. It's when you get on the 24-40's you need to start worrying!
As someone has previously said... start off in the back garden, then small rooms, then work your way up from there.
I do a lot of domestic and use them all the time ESP when carpets up. Love them!
Good luck!

try em in ur own time first

couple of lids and ull be fine

fella we worked with on a house a few yrs back was standing on boards over a stairwell on some. and walking up and down the stairs. crazy c**t

I love my stilts. It took me quite a while to build up the confidence to do a job in them.

Im ok on them but still walk around as if I have been bummed.

I advise you not to use them in kitchens though as you can scratch the cupboards.

i have a set of stilts but never use them now as i only do private work, they were good for site work when you want to put all the ceilings on in one hit.

they are great untill you fall off (i dislocated my shoulder).i do still use them, but i make sure nothing is in the way

i walk up and down stairs in mine all the time. obviously not all the time, you know what i mean. and ive also fitted into a portaloo and had a piss a few times. it takes alot of concentration to aim from that far away though. i needed a scope.

Dont you get alot of splash back from that height though? !

what if you miss the bog altogether and it goes on the floor, then you step in it in yer stilts!
Be like skating on brown ice for giants :-X

could you imagine the devestation a log hitting the ground from that height would cause?! a bit of flying plastering hitting the floor goes everywhere, nevermind the magic log!

its quite easy to fart on some ones head :D when i was on site, me and my mate used to have races on them and we even had a piggiback fight with the labs on are backs. (stupid but fun) i also went for a pint in my local boozer with them on for a laugh. ;D
